My Rating- between 3.4 and 4 stars. I finished reading it in about 4 days and it is something I liked enough that I think I'll plan on keeping the series on my shelf for a while.
Overall thoughts: I thought it was easy to read and follow and that it flowed really nicely. Reading this book was a nice break from books that might be super suspenseful or heavy in subject matter but it was still really interesting and held my attention. I liked this book and even ordered the second book before I finished this one and already have the third paperback pre-ordered because it’s not out in paperback yet. I am not sure it will make an impact on my life to where I’ll remember it years down the road but it definitely has some staying power and is a book I would recommend. It doesn't feel too young but isn't super mature like most of the books in the genre marked to others in my age group. It's a little fluffy in a couple places but has a few surprises and twists for a nice balance.
I am going to include my notes I made about things I liked, things I didn't, my overall thoughts, and the brief description I wrote in my own words that may be a little spoiler-y.
This book was about: an older high school student receives a strange and mysterious call to the principles office where she finds she has a visitor that is there to basically summon her to a will reading in Texas for someone she has never met. She takes her older half sister with her only to discover that she is the recipient of a strangers entire estate and almost his entire fortune while his family got almost nothing in comparison to what he owned when he died. She never knew him (or so she thought) but goes on an adventure with his grandsons to solve puzzles he left behind and to try to figure out why she was named in the will only to uncover some interesting information and a game that the old man left behind for them.
What I didn't like: Drake, eww! every story needs some drama but the boys are sometimes strange with Avery about Emily. Avery's dad.. also eww (until you get the tea that is!).
What I did like: I feel like it really kept me on my toes, there were definitely quite a few things I wasn’t expecting and that were a surprise, the brothers are protective people when they care about someone but not in the romance novel smutty type of way (mostly pretty innocent), there is a little fluff but mostly surprises and twists/turns with mostly cool characters, no drama and miscommunication
Has anyone else read this book? What are your thoughts?
